Senior Management

Karin Shewer
Partner / President

Karen Shewer

Ms. Shewer is a founding partner of Real Estate Capital Partners. She manages the day-to-day operations of the firm and heads the company’s marketing department. She oversees all fundraising efforts and is a member of the Internal Investment Committee.

Prior to establishing Real Estate Capital Partners in 1989. Ms. Shewer was Senior Vice President of Mellon Real Estate Investment Management Corporation where she marketed the firm’s real estate products to pension funds and wealthy individuals, in addition to serving as the primary contact for general client and public relations and shareholder communications for the Mellon Participating Mortgage Trust.  She also sat on the investment and asset management committees.

Ms. Shewer is a member and former Chairman of the Executive Board of The Association of Foreign Investors in U.S. Real Estate (AFIRE). She received a BA in Urban and Environmental Studies from Case Western Reserve University and an MA in City Planning from the Harvard University Graduate School of Design.

Paul Doocy
Partner / Executive Vice President

Paul Doocy

Mr. Doocy is the head of the Investment/Acquisitions Team and applies his extensive real estate background to lead the strategic investment initiatives of the firm.  He oversees the firm’s investment/disposition approval process for equity investments in multifamily and commercial properties. 

Prior to joining Real Estate Capital Partners, Mr. Doocy was a partner in a Dallas based real estate investment banking firm.  The focus of his investment activity was large structured finance transactions involving pension fund clients.  He also has experience in securitization vehicles such as REMICs, REITs and low-income housing tax credits.  Mr. Doocy began his career with a Dallas-based real estate and oil and gas syndication firm. 

Mr. Doocy is an active member of the Multifamily Leadership Board for the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB), and he is a member of the National Multifamily Housing Council and the Urban Land Institute. He received an MBA from Southern Methodist University and is a graduate of Amherst College (BA, Political Science).

Investment Management

Michael Fruchtman
Partner / Director – Commercial Investments

Michael Fruchtman

Mr. Fruchtman’s career has centered on real estate finance, valuation and feasibility analyses.  He oversees the team responsible for the underwriting, asset management and ultimate sale of commercial properties, and is a member of the company’s Investment Committee.

Prior to joining the firm, Mr. Fruchtman was an assistant vice president in the Real Estate Finance Group of Chemical Bank, where he evaluated commercial properties for loan origination and workout purposes, as well as consulting on acquisition opportunities.

Mr. Fruchtman holds an MBA in Real Estate Finance from Columbia University and a BBA in Real Estate and Urban Land Economics from the University of Wisconsin.

Sylvia Gross
Partner / Director – Capital Markets

Sylvia Gross

Ms. Gross is a member of the acquisitions group with varied responsibilities including real estate finance, equity financing of residential joint venture developments and marketing. She has over 15 years of experience in real estate finance, sourcing, negotiating and structuring real estate facilities.  Ms. Gross has extensive experience on both, debt and equity transactions and is primarily responsible for arranging (the debt) and managing the financial requirements of the individual projects, working directly with the acquisition and asset management groups to optimize each project’s capital structure.

Prior to joining the firm, Ms. Gross was the Vice President of Finance at Louis Dreyfus Property Group, where she was responsible for all financing activities of the company and managed the company’s relationship with financial institutions and investors. Previously, Ms. Gross established the real estate lending department of BHF-BANK, where she managed a diversified commercial real estate loan portfolio and acted as liaison between the US branch and the German investors and borrowers of the bank. 

Ms. Gross holds an MBA in Finance and International Business from New York University and a BA in Economics and German from Bucknell University.  

Jeremy Katz
Vice President

Jeremy Katz

Mr. Katz has an extensive equity and debt background closing real estate loans, acquisitions, and joint ventures.  In his capacity as Investment Manager, he is responsible for sourcing, underwriting, negotiating, and closing investments. 

Mr. Katz began his career at Wells Fargo, underwriting commercial real estate loans and credit lines for large national REITs.  In 2005, Mr. Katz joined RECAP and shifted into the equity arena.  Since that time, he has worked on a variety of transactions on both the residential and commercial sides of RECAP’s business including: acquisitions, joint ventures, recapitalizations, and operating company purchases. 

Mr. Katz holds a BS in Economics from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania.

Marc Schulder
Vice President

Marc B. Schulder

Mr. Schulder has an extensive history of sourcing, underwriting, financing, and closing a wide variety of residential and commercial real estate investment opportunities.  As a member of the multifamily investment team, Mr. Schulder is responsible for equity joint venture investments in accordance with the company’s investment criteria.

Prior to joining Real Estate Capital Partners, Mr. Schulder held successive positions as Director of Acquisitions and then Director of Commercial Leasing for SK Properties, one of New Jersey’s largest private development companies.

Mr. Schulder holds an MBA in Real Estate and Finance from Rutgers University and a BS in Finance and Marketing from the University of Maryland.  He is a licensed NJ Real Estate Salesperson and is a member of Urban Land Institute where he serves on its Multifamily Council.

Shawn Veldhouse
Vice President

Shawn Veldhouse

Mr. Veldhouse has an extensive history of sourcing, underwriting, financing, and closing a wide variety of commercial real estate investment opportunities. As a member of the commercial acquisitions team, Mr. Veldhouse is responsible for acquiring real estate assets in accordance with the company’s investment criteria.

Prior to joining Real Estate Capital Partners, Mr. Veldhouse was a Vice President of Acquisitions for The Milestone Group and its predecessor division within Insignia Financial Group. Before joining Milestone, Mr. Veldhouse worked in the Development Group at the RREEF Funds. Prior to that, he was with GMAC Commercial Mortgage.

Mr. Veldhouse holds an MBA in Finance from Loyola University Chicago and a BS degree in Finance from the University of Utah.

Trey Wakefield
Vice President

Shawn Veldhouse

Mr. Wakefield's background includes a wide assortment of commercial and multifamily transactions executed from sourcing through financing and closing. As a member of the acquisition and development team, Mr. Wakefield is responsible for both acquiring existing real estate assets and identifying promising development opportunities. This includes a focus on joint venture and equity contributions in line with the company's investment objectives. He also has experience in the low-income housing arena, opportunistic entity purchases and with the implementation of platform partnership strategies.

Prior to joining the firm, Mr. Wakefield worked with PM Realty Group's Investment Sales Team on the disposition of retail and office assets throughout the U.S. His responsibilities ranged from underwriting and valuations through the documentation and closing processes. Before PM, he worked for Jones Lang LaSalle's Leasing and Management Group in Dallas.

Mr. Wakefield received a BBA from The College of William & Mary. He is also a member of ICSC and holds a Texas Real Estate License.

Asset / Property Management

André Kinney
Partner / Director – Asset Management

Andre R. Kinney

Mr. Kinney oversees the full scope of Real Estate Capital Partners’ asset management services. He is responsible for the overall strategy, financial performance and maintenance of all multifamily, office, industrial and retail properties across the U.S.   Mr. Kinney brings over 24 years of real estate experience with a focus on asset management, property management, development and financial analysis/strategy for all asset classes of commercial and multifamily real estate.  

Prior to joining Real Estate Capital Partners, Mr. Kinney was Director of Asset Management at Centennial Real Estate where he served clients including institutional investors, pension funds and private investors. 

 Mr. Kinney was responsible for client relations, financial analysis, and oversight of the leasing, maintenance and disposition of all commercial assets. Mr. Kinney is a graduate of the George Mason University Executive Masters Program and holds a BS with a specialty in finance. 

Spencer McCann
Partner / Vice President

Spencer A. McCann

Mr. McCann brings over 16 years of real estate experience with special focus on mechanical systems, construction and tenant build-out. Prior to joining Real Estate Capital Partners, Mr. McCann was Facilities Engineer for Alcatel USA, Inc.  In this capacity he was responsible for all operations at the North American headquarters, as well as at numerous offices around the nation.  Responsibilities included oversight of all building related functions including design, installation and maintenance of all critical systems.  He also maintained responsibility for all construction projects and was responsible for safety planning and preparations at all critical sites.

Mr. McCann holds a BA from Muhlenberg College in Allentown, Pennsylvania.

Joseph Grubb
Senior Vice President

Joseph Grubb

Mr. Grubb has over 25 years of experience in commercial real estate focusing on institutional partnership development, asset management, acquisitions and leasing.  As a senior member of the Asset Management team, he oversees the management of commercial properties nationwide in addition to pursuing new business opportunities. 

Prior to joining RECAP, Mr. Grubb was Executive Vice President at the Philadelphia based Pitcairn Properties where his responsibilities included acquisitions and the oversight of all of Pitcairn’s property operations including Asset Management, Property Management and Engineering.

Mr. Grubb received a Bachelor of Science in Finance from the Pennsylvania State University and is a real estate broker in New York and Pennsylvania.

Construction Management

Steven Whitney
Vice President

Mr. Whitney,an architect and broker, brings over 35 years experience in contract and construction management, development, real estate brokerage and management, building operations, construction loan monitoring, and environmental due diligence. His experience has been with major office and retail developers as well as private architectural practice/contract administration and construction, and management with a leading financial institution.

Before joining the firm, Mr. Whitney founded Sew Real Estate Services, a consulting firm providing services to a broad array of corporate clients focused on the acquisition and/or management of real estate assets. Prior to forming Sew Real Estate Services, Mr. Whitney managed the Technical Services Loan Management Southern Region at CitiGroup (CitiCorp) in the Real Estate Finance Group. Responsibilities included overseeing construction loan projects, asset construction and renovation, environmental evaluation, due diligence coordination, onsite evaluations, construction scheduling, funding, and establishing and tracking budgets. While in Houston, Mr. Whitney managed the contracts group and was a project manager with a Houston Architectural Firm as well as  a Houston Development Group. 

Mr. Whitney received his Bachelor of Architecture from Texas Tech University and is a licensed Architect in Texas as well as a licensed Real Estate Broker with post graduate studies at Rice University. He has previously been a member of the American Institute of Architects, Texas Society of Architects, Dallas AIA, and Dallas Chamber of Commerce and has been a guest lecturer at the American Bankers Association, NYU, Executive Enterprises and is a past President of United Cerebral Palsy. .

Accounting

Robert McGee
Partner / Senior Vice President / Chief Financial Officer

Robert J. McGee

Mr. McGee is responsible for financial, tax and performance reporting for RECAP and its related entities, our management information systems and administrative requirements.  Mr. McGee is a member of the Internal Investment Committee. He has over 30 years of real estate accounting experience that enables him to contribute to our advisory activities by providing our investors with greater in-house expertise on tax issues.

Previously, Mr. McGee served as SVP & CFO for Greystone Realty Corporation, a real estate advisory firm that managed more than $2 billion in diversified equity real estate investments on a national basis.  Prior to joining Greystone, he served as VP & Controller at Mellon Real Estate Investment Management Corporation and as VP & Treasurer of Mellon Participating Mortgage Trust, a publicly traded REIT.  He was formerly a financial analyst with HRO International, Ltd. and an audit manager with Kenneth Leventhal & Company.

Mr. McGee holds a BBA in Accounting from Bernard M. Baruch College and is a Certified Public Accountant.

Ellyn Turner
Partner / Director of Financial Accounting and Reporting

Ellyn Turner

Ms. Turner is responsible for the accounting and financial reporting for Real Estate Capital Partners and subsidiaries. She is also responsible for periodic and ad hoc reporting to the advisory clients as well as industry performance indices. Ms. Turner oversees all cash and entity management. She is involved in building company information systems as well as HR and administrative functions.

Prior to joining RECAP, Ms. Turner was an auditor in the Real Estate Services Group at Arthur Andersen & Co.

Ms. Turner holds a BS in Accounting from the University of Rhode Island and is a Certified Public Accountant.

Ilene Morrison
Director of Tax and Real Estate Accounting

Ilene Morrison

Ms. Morrison is responsible for the tax and financial reporting for investment partnerships and investors, and for Real Estate Capital Partners, L.P. Ms. Morrison has a total of over 10 years of real estate tax experience with Deloitte & Touche LLP and Coopers & Lybrand L.P.  While at Deloitte & Touche, Ms. Morrison led the Real Estate Capital Partners tax engagement for approximately 7 years.  Her primary expertise is in tax consulting and compliance for large real estate owners, operators and investors. In addition, she has performed audits for real estate developers and owners.

Ms. Morrison holds a Master of Taxation from Long Island University and a BBA in Accounting from Hofstra University. She is a Certified Public Accountant.

Stefan Grahn
Partner / European Representative

Stefan Grahn

Mr. Grahn´s career has centered on advising high net worth clients of a German private banking institution in all real estate investment matters including property acquisition and disposition, real estate finance, and asset management. With his experience in private banking and his knowledge of the U.S. real estate markets he is responsible to meet each of our investors’ needs.

Prior to joining the firm, Mr. Grahn was the head and Vice President of the “Real Estate Investments”-department of Hauck & Aufhäuser Privatbankiers KGaA, a traditional private bank, located in Munich and Frankfurt/Main. That department specialized on real estate transactions in the US and in Canada, including the supervision of local management and the reporting of activities to the bank’s private investors.

Mr. Grahn graduated from the EBS Immobilienakademie GmbH, Wiesbaden, Germany, which he passed as “Immobilienökonom (ebs)”.

Scott Parker
Managing Director

Scott Parker

Mr. Parker heads RECAP’s U.S. Investor Relations efforts. He has over 25 years of direct real estate experience including property acquisition and disposition, development and construction, consulting, portfolio management, investor relationships and fundraising. 

Prior to joining RECAP, Mr. Parker was founder and Managing Partner of Kensington Capital, LLC, a privately held real estate investment firm conducting business primarily in the Western U.S. and Inter-Mountain States. Mr. Parker also created Chartwell Partners Inc. and served as its President prior to his departure.  Chartwell was a subsidiary of Tomen America Inc., an institutional Japanese trading company.  Chartwell was initially a home building company and under Mr. Parker’s leadership transitioned itself into an equity joint venture company.  Over the span of his career, Mr. Parker has been involved in the acquisition or development of approximately 6,200 residential units with a value of over $2.8 billion. 

Mr. Parker holds a BA in Political Science from Brigham Young University and is a Licensed General Contractor.  He is an active member of PREA.

Information Technology

Doug Prechtl
Chief Technology Officer

Doug Prechtl

Mr. Prechtl is responsible for determining strategic direction for the firm’s information and technology related operations. He heads up the IT staff and is responsible for technological decisions; software platforms, security, third-party vendors and web-based technology.

Bringing 25 years experience in the information technology field, his experience has covered all aspects of the field including network engineering, software development, and equipment maintenance. Prior to joining RECAP, Mr. Prechtl worked as an independent consultant to small and medium businesses. More recently he has served as VP of Information Technologies for MercyFirst and for IsI Dentsu of the Americas as a consulting senior network engineer.

Mr. Prechtl holds a BE in Electrical Engineering from SUNY at Stony Brook.
